Traces of a Short Life

In this world, some lives arrive too quickly and depart too soon. They never have the chance to truly see the world before quietly leaving it behind. Happiness was one of them.
Happiness was a tiny orange kitten who was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth. When we found him, he was still a fragile newborn — his eyes not yet fully open, his body softly curled, his little limbs weak, like a forgotten ball of warm yellow fluff. Perhaps his mother was too weak, or the world around him too harsh; he had been left in the cold, facing an uncertain fate.

We could not bear to watch him disappear without a chance. We immediately rescued him and brought him to a pet clinic for professional care, hoping the veterinary team could give him the warmth and support he desperately needed. We named him “Happiness”, because we wished that even in his brief time here, he could feel the warmth and kindness of human love.

Inside the incubator, a soft red pad cradled his tiny body while gentle hands in blue gloves carefully adjusted the temperature and provided nourishment. During those days he lay quietly, sometimes twitching his ears, sometimes drifting into deep sleep, as if dreaming of the motherly warmth he had never known.
We gave everything we could. Every staff member at the clinic took turns watching over him, offering a warm environment, attentive feeding, and the gentlest companionship. He once curled peacefully in a clean white blanket, breathing steadily, his fur glowing softly under the light. In that moment, we dared to hope for a miracle.
Sadly, fate was not kind to this little life. After one week of devoted care, his small body could no longer hold on, and he quietly left us.

Although his life lasted only seven short days, Happiness was deeply loved. From the despair of abandonment to moments wrapped in warmth; from helpless struggles to final peace — these are the precious traces he left behind.
His passing breaks our hearts, yet it also deepens our understanding: every life deserves to be seen and protected. Even when we cannot save them, we can still offer warmth and dignity in their brief time with us.
May you now be in a place where you are never cold or alone.
May more abandoned lives be found and cared for in time.
Because every act of kindness can leave a short but eternal trace of love on a small life.
Rest in peace, Happiness.
Though your life was brief, you left the gentlest light in our hearts.
